Once the season was officially over for the Boston Celtics after being knocked out of the NBA playoffs by the Miami Heat, the questions surrounding the storied NBA franchise started to run rampant once again with talk of the front office in Beantown breaking up the Big 3.

With veterans Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett becoming free agents as of July 1, the consensus has been that the Celtics won’t be re-signing either one of these superstars in order to begin an extensive rebuilding process around perennial All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo. Along with the team building around Rondo, Boston will also have Paul Pierce in the fold for at least two more seasons in which they can let his contract expire or explore trades in order to bring in younger talent.

Needless to say, the new era of Celtics basketball has begun in Boston with it being just a matter of time before two of the Big 3 is officially disassembled.

As of right now, Garnett seems to be seriously considering calling it a career. Retirement has become the most likely avenue that Garnett will take once officially a free agent on July 1. If he doesn’t retire, the Big Ticket will re-sign with the Celtics for the short-term.

Allen on the other hand will be taking a different approach to free agency with the intention to move on rather than stick around waiting for an offer from Boston. Apparently, Allen’s best option right now is possibly signing with the defending NBA champion Heat.

Reportedly, there is a mutual interest between Allen and the Heat. Even though Allen’s days of big contracts are officially over, the Heat can offer as much as $3 million per season. This might be the best Allen can find in terms of playing with a legitimate NBA title contender next season.
