After having a breakout season with the New York Knicks, up-and-coming point guard Jeremy Lin set the NBA on fire with Linsanity that spread across the nation and all over the world. With just a few starts under his belt in the Knicks’ backcourt, Lin was instantly dubbed the league’s newest superstar and potentially the future face of the storied NBA franchise in the Big Apple.
The combination of Lin alongside Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler appeared to be a winning one with a potentially a bright future for all these players and the franchise as a whole. Despite the new superstar combination of players in New York, the immediate future was a big question mark for this team after the first-round knockout by the eventual NBA champion Miami Heat in the NBA playoffs.
Along with the Heat noticeably the better all-around team against the Knicks, New York was exposed for their lack of chemistry and inability to contend with the best of the best even with a young and talented squad. One of the biggest problems was Stoudemire’s decreased role and potentially having played his way out of New York with his off the court antics.
Coming into the NBA off-season, the consensus was that the Knicks’ front office would consider making some drastic changes in order to be able to compete with the likes of the Chicago Bulls and the Heat in the Eastern Conference. Even though it seems to be a stretch that the Knicks will trade Stoudemire before next season, it remains a possibility.
Despite potential changes to the roster, the one player that appears to be coming back for sure is Jeremy Lin. With the Knicks cashing in on Linsanity and Lin showing signs of potential superstardom in New York, the front office of the Knicks is willing to roll the dice on the young kid out of Harvard with a long-term deal.
Now that Mike Bibby and Baron Davis are big question marks moving forward, the Knicks will look to re-sign Lin and move forward with Carmelo Anthony and Linsanity leading the way.
