New York Giants @ New York Jets Sat. Dec. 24, 2011 1 p.m. EST
Arguably one of the most anticipated matchups of Week 16 will be the two New York NFL franchises going head-to-head with playoffs hopes on the line for both teams. The New York Giants and the New York Jets haven’t exactly lived up to expectations this season, but both teams still have a shot to clinch a playoff spot if they can get a win on Christmas Eve at New Meadowlands Stadium.
The New York Jets will be coming into this must-win game after being absolutely dominated on both sides of the football by the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. The Eagles really came on strong against the Jets last weekend by lighting up the supposed lockdown defense for 45 points. Philly may have been a team considered to be extremely talented on offense; the Jets’ defense should have contained Michael Vick and company.
In Week 16, the Jets cannot have a repeat performance of Week 16. If the defense fails to show for the second week in a row, Rex Ryan and company will officially be knocked out of playoff contention and give the New York Giants a second chance of being playoff bound.
As for the New York Giants, Eli Manning and company were surprisingly beaten by the division rival Washington Redskins (23-10) in convincing fashion. With a playoff spot on the line, the consensus was that the Giants would beat the Redskins, but that just wasn’t the case and now New York has been forced into a corner.
As of right now, the New York Jets have been given the edge in this Week 16 matchup with a -3 point spread. This game could honestly go either way, but my money is on the Jets.
