The NBA lockout may be long from over with no end in sight as of right now, but the NBA 2K video game franchise isn’t wasting any time on their next game as they have already decided which athletes will grace the cover of the most popular and best-selling NBA video game.
Just like last year with NBA 2K11 (Michael Jordan on the cover), the franchise is going retro by putting NBA legends on the cover opposed to current NBA superstars like Dirk Nowitzki, LeBron James, Derrick Rose or Kobe Bryant. This time around they will have three different covers for NBA 2K12 as NBA legends Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan will share the limelight.
Last season’s game NBA 2K11 was a great success and arguably the best NBA video game of all-time in the opinion of avid gamers and critics. With the Jordan mode the fans of the greatest basketball player of all-time could play his greatest games as a member of the Chicago Bulls. This time around there could be a very good possibility for a Magic Johnson and Larry Bird mode where you can play as the two NBA legends in actual gameplay.
If this is true, and I strongly believe it will be, this game could turn out to be the best-selling game in the franchise and will raise the bar even higher for 2K Sports moving forward. Last year’s game was about as good as it gets in terms of basketball video games, but I won’t be surprise to see this next game surpass last year’s.
NBA 2K12 is set to be released on Oct. 4 whether or not the NBA lockout continues. At this point in time, the lockout looks like it will still be going on around that time and possible much further down the line than that.
