The St. Louis Rams will head in this NFL regular season with high hopes of finally being able to turn this struggling franchise around after drafting former Heisman trophy winner Sam Bradford to lead their offense.

Obviously, they are not going to be able to instantly turn things around as teams with a rookie quarterbacks are bound to struggle early on, but there is light at the end of tunnel for this once dominant NFC Conference team.

Before Thursday’s NFL preseason win against the New England Patriots, Sam Bradford had disappointing performances to say the least as he just couldn’t get anything going for the St. Louis Rams offense, but against the Patriots he came into his own by throwing for 189 yards and two touchdowns.

Even though things are starting to look up for the Rams $78 million dollar man, the team suffered a huge blow to the offense as they lost arguably their best wide receiver Donnie Avery to a possible season ending knee injury.

Last season Donnie Avery was the only thing positive going for the St. Louis Rams as he finished the year with 47 catches, 589 yards and five touchdowns.

Heading into this season, the Rams were counting on Avery becoming Bradford’s number one target in the offense, but after going down with what looks like a serious knee injury, the promising young wideout could miss the entire season.

This is obviously nothing, but bad news for an already struggling NFL franchise, but at least Sam Bradford is starting to show promise and restoring faith in St. Louis that he can be the number one guy under center sooner rather than later.

Hopefully, for the Rams and Bradford’s sake, Avery’s injury will be minor and something he can return from this season, but initial reports say that it was serious and he might miss considerable time.
