Saints’ Marques Colston out at least four weeks with broken collarbone

The NFL season opener did not disappoint on Thursday night as the New Orleans Saints and the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers battled it out all night long at Lambeau Field, but there was one injury that could seriously hurt the Saints over the next four weeks as arguably the best wide receiver on the team in Marques Colston will be out with a broken collarbone.

Even though Marques Colston didn’t get in the endzone on Thursday night against the Packers, the Saints number one receiver was racking up some good numbers before breaking his collarbone with 81 yards on six catches.

Fortunately, superstar quarterback Drew Brees has plenty of talented wide receivers at his disposal with the likes of Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem and tight end Jimmy Graham, but Marques Colston is definitely his go-to guy in the passing game and will surely be missed.

The New Orleans Saints should be able to bounce back after their Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers as they will definitely be the favorite to come out on top against the Chicago Bears next week. Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem will almost certainly step up as the number one targets in the offense for the next four weeks, but along with those two the Saints will probably get running back Darren Sproles more involved in the passing game after his impressive performance in Week 1.

There is no question that Darren Sproles best highlight of the night was his 72-yard punt return for a touchdown, but it seems that his impact was felt more in the passing game with the running back becoming Drew Brees favorite target with seven catches for 75 yards. So far, Sproles has been able to get Saints fans to forget about Reggie Bush. Hopefully, he can keep it up with Colston being out over the next four weeks.
