Pittsburgh Steelers @ San Francisco 49ers Mon. Dec. 19, 2011 8:30 p.m. EST
After winning the AFC championship game last season and making it back to the Super Bowl for the third time in the Big Ben era in Pittsburgh, the Steelers were considered to still be one of the best teams in the league with a dominant defense leading the way. Coming into this season though, the consensus was that the Steelers were an old team on the decline with little hope of being able to continue to compete with the best of the best in the AFC Conference.
Fortunately, that hasn’t turned about to be the case this season with the Pittsburgh Steelers coming into Week 15 of the regular season with an impressive 10-3 record. Despite just three losses on the season, the Steelers are basically out of the running for the AFC North division title with two of their losses this season coming against the arch division rival Baltimore Ravens.
Winning the AFC North division title might be a stretch for the Pittsburgh Steelers at this point in time, but fortunately they will almost certainly lock up a spot in the playoff with the AFC Wild Card.
In Week 15, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be in for a tough challenge against the up-and-coming San Francisco 49ers. Not only will the 49ers pose a challenge in Week 15, but the Steelers could be without two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Ben Roethlisberger due to an injured ankle. There is still a chance that Big Ben could play, but with the playoffs less than a month away head coach Mike Tomlin will probably rest his star quarterback.
As of right now, the San Francisco 49ers are favored to get the win on Monday Night Football with a -3 point spread. Without Big Ben, the Steelers could be headed for their fourth loss of the season in Week 15.
