The Seattle Seahawks have been one team in the NFL that has been concerned about one of the most important positions on their roster as their veteran quarterback Matt Hasselback was set to become a free agent. Despite getting an offer for $7 million for next season, the 36-year-old quarterback decided it was time to leave Seattle and test the free agent waters.
There is no question at this point in time that Matt Hasselback is one of the most sought after NFL free agents at the quarterback position and will have plenty of teams interested in his services moving forward. As of right now, there are reportedly four teams in the running for Matt Hasselback that might cause a bit of a bidding war before the free agency period is over.
The four teams interested in signing Matt Hasselback are the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers. In my opinion, the Cardinals are the verge of landing Kevin Kolb (Philadelphia Eagles) via trade which knocks them out and the 49ers will probably stick with Alex Smith and their new rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick out of Nevada.
With that being said, the Tennessee Titans and the Miami Dolphins would be the most likely destinations for the veteran quarterback. Hasselback could be a good fit in Miami and might be able to strike up some chemistry with perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall, but he would be the ideal candidate to take over for Kerry Collins and Vince Young in Tennessee.
Even though the Titans haven’t officially released Young, the consensus is that they will sooner rather than later. Once Young is gone, that opens the door to sign Hasselback as their new starter and mentor to rookie Jake Locker.
