Last season the Minnesota Vikings were considered to be a legitimate Super Bowl title contender with future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre under center for one more season, arguably the best running back in the game in the backfield in Adrian Peterson and up-and-coming wide receiver Sidney Rice downfield. Even though the Vikings were extremely talented, this Super Bowl title contender fell apart with injuries and an aging veteran quarterback that could no longer play at the NFL level.
Now that Brett Favre has called it quits and the Minnesota Vikings have gone younger under center, free agent wide receiver Sidney Rice is weighing his options around the league before re-signing with a Vikings squad that could be a few years away from getting back into the playoffs. Despite the abundance of talented veteran wide receivers available before next season, Sidney Rice will almost certainly be one of the most sought after free agent wideouts.
With that being said, there will be no shortage of interested in Rice, but a frontrunner to sign the up-and-comer is the Washington Redskins. With the Redskins seriously deficient at wide receiver, Rice might be exactly what this team needs to get back into playoff contention.
The quarterback position in the nation’s capital is still up in the air as veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb might be watching from the bench next season, but that could quickly change if he has an option in the passing game like Sidney Rice.
The Minnesota Vikings will most likely try to do all they can to keep their best wide receiver on their roster, but if they can’t convince him to come back to Minnesota, the Washington Redskins might be the most likely destination for the Pro Bowl caliber wide receiver with a lot of good years left in him.
