#1 San Antonio Spurs (45-9)
The San Antonio Spurs came into this NBA regular season with high hopes of being a playoff team in the Western Conference once again, but no one predicted this team led by aging veterans to be arguably the best team in the league. Continue Reading…
Utah Jazz at Phoenix Suns Tues. Feb. 15, 2011 9 p.m. EST
Over the past 23 years, the Utah Jazz have had arguably one of the greatest head coaches of all-time calling the shots on the sidelines in Jerry Sloan. With his recent retirement from the game after an altercation with superstar point guard Deron Williams, the head coaching duties have gone to Tyrone Corbin.
With Corbin having some enormous shoes to fill, the Utah Jazz could be in for an uphill battle throughout the rest of the NBA regular season. In his first game as head coach, the Utah Jazz fell to the Phoenix Suns (95-83), but Deron Williams and company will have a chance to rebound against the Suns as they will be heading into Phoenix to take on Steve Nash’s squad.
Even though these two teams are pretty much playing at the same level right now and could be on the outside looking in on the playoffs if they can’t turn it around, the Jazz will have the clear disadvantage in this game being that it is being played in Phoenix and they will be without versatile forward Andrei Kirilenko.
In their last meeting this past Friday, Kirilenko went down with a right ankle sprain. Even though losing Andrei Kirilenko isn’t like losing Deron Williams or Paul Millsap, the versatile forward can be a game changer with his ability to be a multiple threat on the basketball floor.
The one matchup to watch in this game will be arguably two of the league’s best point guards going head-to-head in Steve Nash and Deron Williams. Despite Williams being the much younger of the two, Nash will almost certainly lead his team to victory in this game.
As of right now, the Phoenix Suns will most likely be favored in this matchup and should cover the spread. Make sure to get in on Tuesday’s NBA betting action before tip off.
Los Angeles Lakers at Orlando Magic Sun. Feb. 13, 2011 3:30 p.m. EST
No more than a week ago everyone in Los Angeles started to panic about the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers chances of pulling off the repeat. They may be on top of the Pacific division and will almost certainly be a high seed in the Western Conference heading into the playoffs once again, but they were unable to beat the best of the best this season with losses to teams like the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks.
Even though the Lakers had been struggling and were surrounded by trade rumors involving superstar Carmelo Anthony, this team was still extremely talented from top to bottom with a legitimate shot of pulling off the three-peat and sending off Phil Jackson with a record 12th NBA title.
On Thursday night in Boston, the defending champs proved that they are still a serious force to be reckoned with as they beat the Celtics on their home floor in convincing fashion. As if that weren’t a sign of change in Lakerland, Kobe Bryant and company traveled to the Big Apple a day later and destroyed the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
After beating the Knicks, the Lakers are 4-0 on this seven game road trip, but will have their work cut out for them on Sunday night against Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. Even though the Magic aren’t playing at the caliber of say the Celtics or the Heat right now, they are still amongst the best teams in the league and will be a challenge for the defending champs. Miami Heat at Boston Celtics Sun. Feb. 13, 2011 1 p.m. EST
There is no question at this point in the NBA regular season that the Miami Heat (39-14) and the Boston Celtics (38-14) are without a doubt the two best teams in the Eastern Conference. Even though that seems to be the case, the two East heavyweights will battle it out for the top spot in the Conference on Sunday afternoon. Continue Reading…
Los Angeles Lakers at New York Knicks Fri. Feb. 11, 2011 8 p.m. EST
The two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the elite teams in the league that have struggled as of late. There has been no problem winning basketball games all around as they had a record of 36-16 coming into last night’s matchup with the arch rival Boston Celtics, but they have had problems beating the best of the best in the league this season. With the NBA All-Star weekend right around the corner, the league has started to pick the players they want to participate in the various contests like the Slam Dunk Contest, Skills Challenge and the Three Point Shootout.
This year the lineup for the Three-Point Shootout is extremely talented from top to bottom with two teammates leading the way. The NBA usually never lets teammates compete against each other in these contests as you can only have one player per team, but this season they made an exception as the Boston Celtics Ray Allen and defending champion Paul Pierce will both be participating. Dallas Mavericks at Denver Nuggets Thurs. Feb. 10, 2011 10:30 p.m. EST
The Denver Nuggets have been getting a lot of attention over the past couple of months for all the wrong reasons. Even though the Nuggets still a team that looks like they could be playoff bound in the Western Conference as they are currently the seventh seed, they appear to be on the verge of a drastic change as superstar forward Carmelo Anthony has said that he will not sign a contract extension with the team. Los Angeles Lakers @ Boston Celtics Thurs. Feb. 10, 2011 8 p.m. EST
Last year’s NBA Finals was epic to say the least as two of the league’s biggest rivals in the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics went head-to-head in a series that went down to a seventh game with a thrilling finish.
The Lakers may have come out on top in the NBA Finals for the second straight time and cemented themselves as arguably the best team in the league once again, but their campaign for a three consecutive NBA title has been rough to say the least. Kobe Bryant and company are still amongst the best in the league and are sitting well above .500 with a 36-16 record heading into Thursday night’s matchup against the Boston Celtics, but they haven’t been able to compete with the likes of the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs. Chicago Bulls at Utah Jazz Weds. Feb. 9, 2011 9 p.m. EST
Two of the most talented point guards in the NBA will go head-to-head on Wednesday night as Derrick Rose’s Chicago Bulls travel to Utah to take on Deron Williams and the Jazz. Not only will this game be entertaining to watch with two of the league’s best at the point battling it out, but it will mark the first time that forward Carlos Boozer returns to Utah.
In the offseason, it was uncertain whether or not free agent Carlos Boozer would return to the Utah Jazz or sign with the Miami Heat, New York Knicks or the Chicago Bulls. Even though the consensus was that he might decide to stay with Deron Williams and company, the former All-Star forward decided to play alongside Derrick Rose instead. Continue Reading…
Los Angeles Clippers at New York Knicks Weds. Feb. 9, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
This time last season, the Los Angeles Clippers were a bottom feeder in the Western Conference once again as they saw their number overall pick in forward Blake Griffin go down with a season-ending knee injury and seemed to have little hope for the future. This season the tables have definitely turned as the Clippers are relevant once again with Griffin back healthy and arguably the most promising young superstar in this league. Continue Reading…
