Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns decided to make a swap of running back in hopes of strengthening their own teams but also in the hopes to strengthen the individuals traded.

Jerome Harrison of the Cleveland Browns was sent to the Philadelphia Eagles while Mike Bell of the Eagles was sent to the Browns. Both of these players had promising years back in 2009 but have yet to make a strong impression this year.

Harrison didn’t have a strong coming at first in Cleveland but then flourished during the 2009 season during which he had 286 rushed yards during Week 15 of the NFL season last year at Kansas City, which just about set a new record in the history of the NFL for the most rushed yards in a single NFL game, as well as 561 rushed yards during the last three weeks of last season. With so much parity around the league this season, it seems like any team with a decent squad has an opportunity to be Super Bowl bound, but the one team that everyone thought was the clear favorite to become Super Bowl champions this season has struggled as Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts just haven’t been able to play consistently.

San Diego Chargers vs St. Louis Rams Sun. Oct. 17^th 1pm EST

As they usually do, the San Diego Chargers came into this NFL regular season as the clear favorites to win the AFC West division title and make a run at the Super Bowl, but once again Philip Rivers and company have struggled to get off to a good start and will head into Week 6’s matchup with the St. Louis Rams with a 2-3 record after getting beaten by the Oakland Raiders.

There is no question that the Chargers are still a very talented team with Super Bowl aspirations this season, but with their recent struggles on both sides of the football they are no longer team considered to be an elite team in this league. With a pretty good D across the board, this weeks NFL football betting is going to be a good one.

With that being said, they are pretty much on an even playing ground coming into this matchup with Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams. Monday, in order to strengthen their problem defense, the Anaheim Ducks decided to sign veteran defenseman Andreas Lilja. The contract is reportedly only for a single year but is worth $600,000. Don’t expect to see the veteran on the ice immediately as there are some visa issues that he is having to work out prior to being able to play, reportedly.

The agreement between the Ducks and the 35-year-old veteran defenseman came over the weekend, not too long after Anaheim lost one of their top defensemen to a broken thumb – Andy Sutton suffered the injury to his right thumb Friday evening. In addition, the Ducks are also without their newly signed defenseman, Tony Lydman, who has been out since before training camp due to serious case of double vision that could have been connected to and caused by severe migraines. Not only did the St. Louis Rams lose their game on Sunday to the Detroit Lions 44-6, a very embarrassing defeat, they also lost one of their star players – wide receiver Mark Clayton. Clayton won’t just be missing a couple of games either; he is set to miss the rest of the 2010 NFL season.

During the game, Clayton, who was acquired during the preseason this year from the Baltimore Ravens on September 6, sustained an injury to his right knee during the first quarter of Sunday’s game that now threatens the rest of his NFL season this year. Minnesota Vikings vs New York Jets Mon. Oct. 11^th 8:30pm EST

Coming into this NFL regular season, the Minnesota Vikings were considered to be Super Bowl title contenders once again as they had Brett Favre back under center for one more season and a team full of confidence on both sides of the football.

Unfortunately, after the first four weeks of the season, that doesn’t seem to be the case as the Vikings have lost two of the first three games of the season against the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints (14-9) and the Miami Dolphins (14-10). The loss to the Saints was to be expected as the Vikings were without Pro Bowl wide receiver Sidney Rice (hip) and Brett Favre was still rusty after sitting out training camp, but losing to the Dolphins was a surprise and a serious wakeup call for the team favored to win the NFC North division over the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. The Atlanta Falcons came into this NFL regular season on a mission to prove that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the NFC Conference and in just four short weeks, Matt Ryan and company have done just that as they have shown signs of life on both sides of the football. Saturday, sources confirmed that the Boston Bruins have in fact signed Zdeno Chara, a four-time All-Star, to a seven-year contract on the morning of the season opener for the Bruins against the Phoenix Coyotes. As for financial terms of the seven-year deal, the contract, which is set to keep Chara part of the Bruins through the 2016-2017 NHL season and until the Bruins captain turns 41 years of age, is reportedly worth $45.5 million.

Originally drafted in the third round of the 1996 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, 33-year-old Chara comes in at 6-foot-9, which makes him the tallest hockey player in the history of the NHL. He played between the Islanders and the Ottawa Senators for eight seasons, four and four, respectively and was then signed in 2006 by the Boston Bruins as a free agent.
