Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns decided to make a swap of running back in hopes of strengthening their own teams but also in the hopes to strengthen the individuals traded.

Jerome Harrison of the Cleveland Browns was sent to the Philadelphia Eagles while Mike Bell of the Eagles was sent to the Browns. Both of these players had promising years back in 2009 but have yet to make a strong impression this year.

Harrison didn’t have a strong coming at first in Cleveland but then flourished during the 2009 season during which he had 286 rushed yards during Week 15 of the NFL season last year at Kansas City, which just about set a new record in the history of the NFL for the most rushed yards in a single NFL game, as well as 561 rushed yards during the last three weeks of last season. This year, he only has 91 total yards on 31 total carries and lost his starting position that he first claimed from Jamal Lewis last year to Peyton Hillis this year.

Bell had five touchdowns and 654 yards for 174 carries last season as part of the New Orleans Saints but then went on the market as a restricted free agent during the offseason and just simply never picked his pace back up when he landed in Philadelphia and has only recorded 28 total yards for 16 total carries. Despite injuries to and departures of teammates LeSean McCoy and Brian Westbrook respectively, he still hasn’t been able to pick up the pace and stick his feet in the ground. He simply isn’t where the coaches want him to be and I assume that he is where he wants to be either.

Comparing this year to last year for both of these running backs, the future doesn’t seem promising. The trade is a gesture that is hopefully in the right direction for both the individuals as well as the teams as a whole.
