Bryce Harper reported Tuesday morning that he had successfully inked a deal with the Washington Nationals for almost $10 million on Monday night. The number one overall draft pick out of this year’s 2010 MLB Draft just barely made the midnight deadline on Monday of being signed. Had this midnight deadline not been reached, Harper would have been dismissed and would be eligible to enter into next year’s MLB Draft. Therefore, lucky for the Nationals, they were able to agree on a deal and will have Harper as one of their own.

Harper’s deal is worth just shy of $10 million and is a five-year deal with Washington. Harper was one of the 14 draft picks that waited until the last minute to reach deals with their teams to sign into the MLB. Continue Reading…

Coming into Sunday night’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, all eyes were on rookie quarterback Tim Tebow as he was set to make his NFL debut and play a significant amount of time under center for the Denver Broncos after Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn took their turns earlier in the contest.

As many people had anticipated, Kyle Orton got the start and played extremely well in his short time under center as he finished with 84 yards and two touchdowns. Saturday evening, the St. Louis Rams had their preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. Sam Bradford, the number 1 2010 NFL Draft pick and quarterback for the St. Louis Rams, took quite the beating in his debut, which wasn’t a victory for the Rams and was a 28-7 victory for the Vikings.

An MRI determined that Chipper Jones had indeed torn his ACL in his left knee and it would require surgery. The Atlanta Braves icon underwent surgery Saturday morning, which was a success.

Chipper will not return this 2010 MLB season but he has decided that he will not retire after this year. In fact, Jones will attempt a comeback for the 2011 MLB season; therefore, when spring training camp rolls around next year, we will see Jones with the Braves. Continue Reading…

Last night, during his appearance against the Texas Rangers, Jacoby Ellsbury is headed to Boston this Saturday morning to have yet again another MRI. He is said to be having his ribs re-examined in the fact that he possibly reinjured himself last night during a collision that took place at first base in Arlington.

Ellsbury collided with pitcher Tommy Hunter, but that wasn’t the worst of it. It was what happened after the collision that is taking Ellsbury MLB season one step closer to ending or at least plummeting drastically. The New England Patriots are without a doubt one of the best teams in the NFL and next season they might be able to get back to Super Bowl title contender form, but they took a huge hit on Friday after learning they would be without their best defensive end in Ty Warren for the rest of the season with a hip injury.

Last season the Patriots offense was finally able to get back on track with Tom Brady getting more and more healthy and confident on his surgically repaired knee as the season progressed, but the New England defense was their Achilles heel as they couldn’t hold leads and saw a lot of veterans retire before the season. The Miami Dolphins will head into the 2010-2011 NFL season with high hopes of making it into the playoffs and maybe even contending for a Super Bowl title, but they will need to get some team chemistry between quarterback Chad Henne and new superstar wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Obviously, adding Marshall to the Miami offense makes the Dolphins a much better team next season, but whether or not the addition of his perennial wide receiver will turn out to be a good move remains to be seen. In the meantime, the outspoken wideout has expressed his concern about a potential lockout in 2011 and what he intends on doing if the Miami Dolphins will not be on the gridiron in the 2011-2012 season. The NFL regular season is still a few weeks away with the highly anticipated NFC championship rematch between the Minnesota Vikings taking on the New Orleans Saints on September 9^th, but until then there will be four preseason games for each of the 32 NFL franchises before the upcoming season gets underway.

Even though NFL preseason games are pretty pointless and have no bearing on the upcoming regular season, they can still paint a picture of things to come as these team’s superstars show they haven’t missed a step and new additions try to prove they are worth enough to make the team.
