An MRI determined that Chipper Jones had indeed torn his ACL in his left knee and it would require surgery. The Atlanta Braves icon underwent surgery Saturday morning, which was a success.
Chipper will not return this 2010 MLB season but he has decided that he will not retire after this year. In fact, Jones will attempt a comeback for the 2011 MLB season; therefore, when spring training camp rolls around next year, we will see Jones with the Braves.
Prior to the injury, Chipper had plans of retiring after this baseball season. The manger for the Atlanta Braves had already made the announcement that Jones would be retiring. However, after the injury, Chipper has simply decided that he is not ready to quit nor is it the proper time.
For now, Chipper will take things one step at a time. He’s successfully underwent surgery on his left knee and will now spend the next several months recovering from the surgery and healing his knee so that he can participate in spring training camp next year and hopefully make a huge comeback for his 2011 MLB season, which could be his last or he could finish his contract out with the Braves and continue through the 2012 season.
Chipper feels that he owes it to himself to at least make an attempt at a comeback next year. There is no reason to end your baseball career off the field. Hopefully, he will up and ready to start spring training camp when it comes around. If he is not able to participate and is not playing up to par, he may make that final decision and decide to go ahead and retire instead of attempting his desired comeback.
