The New England Patriots are without a doubt one of the best teams in the NFL and next season they might be able to get back to Super Bowl title contender form, but they took a huge hit on Friday after learning they would be without their best defensive end in Ty Warren for the rest of the season with a hip injury.
Last season the Patriots offense was finally able to get back on track with Tom Brady getting more and more healthy and confident on his surgically repaired knee as the season progressed, but the New England defense was their Achilles heel as they couldn’t hold leads and saw a lot of veterans retire before the season.
One of the Patriots best defensive players left on this team after half the defense decided to call it quits last season is defensive end Ty Warren. Even though Warren doesn’t get the recognition of Julius Peppers, DeMarcus Ware or Jared Allen, he is still amongst the best in the league at his position and will be a huge loss for the New England Patriots heading into the season, especially since they traded away Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders last year.
The Patriots offense will almost certainly be one of the best in the league this season with Tom Brady and Randy Moss having one more season as arguably the best quarterback/wide receiver dynamic duo in the NFL, but if the defense can’t hold leads again, New England could be headed for a long and very disappointing season. The online sportsbooks will be interesting if that’s the case.
Obviously, with this recent injury and the fact that the NFL regular season is just three weeks away, Bill Belichick and company will look for a free agent for some insurance at defensive end, but in the meantime they will go with Derrick Burgess to replace Ty Warren.
