Chipper Jones got a hit to the heart this Thursday when he found out that he’ll miss the rest of this MLB season. Although he was planning to retire after this season, it is safe to say that he is more than disappointed that he’ll have to miss due to an injury that he sustained to his left knee, specifically he has a torn ACL. The torn ligament was determined on Thursday when he underwent an MRI exam to determine the extent of the injury and it definitely wasn’t good news for anyone.
The good news not only blasted Jones and his family but also the Braves. Jones has been improving a lot over the past couple months and was a huge force of wind in the lineup for Atlanta, who the 18-year veteran has played with for a total of 17 career seasons and manager Bobby Cox. Injuries to centers in the NFL don’t usually get a lot of attention. But then, not all centers are like the Indianapolis Colts Jeff Saturday, a four-time Pro Bowl veteran who is the widely acknowledged anchor of the offensive line.
Details on the injury are sketchy right now. The AP has not even been able to determine which knee underwent the surgery, despite several calls to Colts coach Jim Caldwell and the medical staff. Two to six weeks is a wide margin for error and Indianapolis Colts management won’t narrow things down any further than that. Continue Reading…
It’s been a rough 2010 for the Boston Red Sox. The injuries started in April with the sidelining of Jacoby Ellsbury and never let up. The latest casualty is team homerun and slugging leader Kevin Youkilis, who is done for the season after having thumb surgery. However, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel as Dustin Pedroia battles back from a broken right foot.
He suffered the injury back on June 25 and has been pushing to get back in the lineup ever since. At one point, he had to be brought in slowly by the Red Sox training staff because his ambitious workout schedule ran the risk of aggravating the injury. Continue Reading…
The Denver Nuggets have been one of the best young teams in the league over the last two seasons, but last year they hit a little bit of a bump in the road as the team really struggled with head coach George Karl missing time late in the season due to his second battle with cancer.
Despite battling with cancer for the second time in his life and beating the disease once again, Karl has said that he will return to the Nuggets bench next season and hopes to lead the team back to the playoffs and a shot at an NBA title. Continue Reading…
The NBA free agent market is pretty much over and done with after the last big-name in Tracy McGrady deciding to sign with the Detroit Pistons recently, but that doesn’t mean that teams around the league aren’t still considering making trades as the Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, New Jersey Nets and the New Orleans Hornets.
Reportedly, both the Hornets and the Rockets were content with letting some of their best players hit the road this summer after just one season with the team. Continue Reading…
The New York Jets are one of the most promising young teams in the NFL right now as they have arguably the league’s best defense, a passionate head coach in Rex Ryan that is liked by the entire team and the future face of the franchise in quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Even though they must get better on the offensive side of the football and they almost certainly will this season with the additions of running back LaDainian Tomlinson and wide receiver Santonio Holmes, the defense is top notch with arguably the best shutdown cornerback in the NFL in Darrelle Revis. Over the past month or so, the NBA has been buzzing about who the two-time scoring champion Tracy McGrady would be playing with next season as workouts with both the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls didn’t go as well as anticipated and the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers seemed to no longer be interested after re-signing Shannon Brown. It has been eight days now since All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis has decided to holdout from New York Jets training camp, but even though he could very well have a new deal in place and rejoin the team before the NFL regular season begins on September 13th against the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Rex Ryan has said that he is ready to move on without his best defensive player. The NFL regular season might still be about a month away with the New Orleans Saints starting off their title defense against the Minnesota Vikings on September 9th, but preseason has officially begun with the Dallas Cowboys taking on the Cincinnati Bengals in the Hall of Fame Game.
Not only was this game a big deal for the Dallas Cowboys as they witnessed arguably their best player of all-time in running back Emmitt Smith get inducted into the Hall of Fame, but it would also be the first time they would see former Cowboy Terrell Owens on the other side of football field as he made his debut with the Bengals. The Dallas Morning News is reporting that tight end John Phillips for the Dallas Cowboys may have a torn ACL. This injury would have occurred during Sunday night’s Hall of Fame preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals during the middle of the second quarter, which the Cowboys won.
Prior to being injured in Sunday night’s game, Phillips had four catches for a total of 60 yards. Phillips, drafted out of the 2009 NFL Draft in the sixth round, is a second year player for the Cowboys. In addition to the four catches, he took on some decent blocking during the game as well. After such a great game for Phillips, it’s going to be disappointing if he has to miss the entire season. Continue Reading…
