After two amazing journeys from mediocrity, New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin and New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow make Time Magazine’s list for “Top 100 Most Influential People in the World.”

An impressive feat for both athletes as neither one of them was considered to have a future in the NFL or the NBA after making it to the professional level of their sport. Lin’s journey was like a firecracker in the NBA as he literally came from nowhere to re-energize the Knicks franchise in the absence of superstars Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire. Even though his production fell off before suffering a potential season-ending injury, Lin was amazing during his stretch and got everyone who has ever dreamed of making it to the NBA believing that anything can happen if you want it bad enough.

As for Tebow, the story was quite different as he was arguably the most successful college football player of all-time. With a Heisman trophy and two BCS championships as the face of the Florida Gators under Urban Meyer, Tebow was a star before he even entered in the NFL draft a few years ago. Despite already hitting stardom before making his debut in the NFL, Tebow was thought to be nothing more than role player that would never be a starting quarterback in the league.

Fortunately, Tebow got his shot to take the starting role under center with the Denver Broncos after Kyle Orton was pulled this past season. As a result, Tebow led the Broncos on a charge that ultimately ended with an AFC West division title and a playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The impossible run by a player that everyone said couldn’t hack inspired the country and lifted spirits across the globe.

Some people may mock the fact that both of these professional athletes made this list, but I can’t think of anyone better to come out of the sports world.
