New York Giants @ Washington Redskins Sun. Jan. 2nd 2010 4:15pm EST
The New York Giants are a solid football team this season with a potent offense and a defense that can stop anyone when playing up to their potential, but the last two weeks have been gut wrenching for this storied NFL franchise as Eli Manning and company were helpless in the losses to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.
Obviously, the loss to the Eagles was somewhat out of their hands in the fourth quarter, but falling to the Packers really exposed their weaknesses on defense and may have ultimately cost them a spot in the playoffs. This is going to be a key week in NFL football betting with such teams on the bubble.
Coming into Week 17, the New York Giants will have their backs against the wall as they not only have to beat the Washington Redskins, but also have to have the Green Bay Packers lose to the Chicago Bears.
With that being said, the Giants need to have some luck go in their way if they want to be playoff bound, but first will have to concentrate on getting the best of the division rival Redskins.
As of right now, the New York Giants are the favorites coming into this matchup with a -4 point spread in their favor. Even though I believe the Giants should come out on top in this NFC East showdown, the Redskins have played pretty well with Rex Grossman under center in place of six-time Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb.
So if the Giants defense can get back on track this weekend and contain the Redskins offense, I believe New York should get the win and cover the spread. The Giants clinching a playoff spot on the other hand seems a bit out of their reach as I think the Packers will get the best of the Bears this weekend.
