VCU Rams (11) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (1) Sun. March 27, 2025 2:20 p.m. EST
Coming into the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Kansas Jayhawks (1) were using last season’s upset to Northern Iowa in the second round to motivate this team to go the distance in the Big Dance. With a number one seed in the Southwest Region, the Kansas Jayhawks (1) were the team to beat within their region once again, but this time the competition was weaker than in any other region as it could be argued the Jayhawks have had the easiest path of high seed in the tournament.
Ironically enough, the Kansas Jayhawks (1) will head into the Elite Eight with yet another scenario in which they could get knocked out of the NCAA Tournament by a much lower seed. As this season’s Cinderella story in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the VCU Rams (11) will be looking to do the seemingly impossible by taking out the final number one seed left in the tournament in the Kansas Jayhawks (1).
There is no question that the odds will be against VCU (11) coming into this game as Kansas (1) is without a doubt the better team. Despite the fact that the odds will be against the Rams in this Elite Eight matchup, this squad has embraced the underdog label and will be going up against nothing new in this showdown with a chance to advance to the Final Four.
As of right now, the Kansas Jayhawks (1) have been heavily favored to come out on top in this Elite Eight matchup with a -11.5 point spread. Even though the Jayhawks do have the ability to pull off the win and cover the large spread, I believe taking Bill Self’s squad to cover such a large spread this deep in the tourney isn’t a wise decision.
Take VCU at +11.5.
