The United States national soccer team has exceeded expectations up to this point in the 2010 World Cup, they may have only drawn the first two games they have played in the tournament against England (1-1) and Slovenia (2-2), but they still have a chance to advance to the knockout stage with a win over Algeria on Wednesday.
Throughout the first two games of the 2010 World Cup, Landon Donovan and company have struggled to put score goals in the early going as they have had to come from behind in both matches against England and Slovenia. Continue Reading…
Portugal ended a severe scoring drought today by beating the North Korean team 7-0, which places Portugal in nice shape to get to the next round of 16 teams. “It was a great day for Portugal and Portuguese football,” said the coach, Carlos Queiroz.
The route started with Meireles’ 29th-minute goal that tied up the match, followed by Simao, Almeida and Tiago, all of whom scored rather early in the second half of play. Continue Reading…
These NBA playoffs have been entertaining to say the least with a lot of surprises and underdogs going much further than anticipated. Even though many people were expecting to see a Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Finals matchup with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James battling it out for an NBA title, the Boston Celtics were able to do the seemingly impossible and beat the two best teams in the Eastern Conference to get back to the NBA Finals for the second time in three years. The Washington Redskins have gone through some drastic changes this offseason, but despite acquiring a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback in Donovan McNabb and a future hall of fame head coach in Mike Shanahan, the Skins seem to be on the verge of another big change by trading away arguably their best defensive player in Albert Haynesworth.
Before last season, the Washington Redskins were thought to have landed a really big fish in free agency by signing arguably the best defensive player in the league in Albert Haynesworth. Even though the Tennessee Titans had one of their best seasons in franchise history, they weren’t willing to sign Haynesworth to the kind of money he was demanding and the Redskins took advantage. Throughout the past two years in the NBA, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the upcoming 2010 NBA free agent market as none of the big-name players like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson or Chris Bosh were willing to sign a contract extension with their current teams.
With all these big-name free agents officially becoming available come July 1st, the NBA has been buzzing with rumors about where some of these players might be landing when teams around the league can start making offers this summer. Continue Reading…
The upcoming free agent class in the NBA is arguably the most talented and most impactful the league has ever seen as some very big names in the NBA could be heading elsewhere this summer.
Obviously, the biggest name available this summer is without a doubt LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers, but there are plenty of other game changers that could very easily take a struggling NBA franchise from perennial loser to a possible playoff team or maybe even title contender. This NBA regular season was an absolutely nightmare for the Washington Wizards in more ways than one as they quickly went from a team ready to compete in the Eastern Conference to arguably the worst team in the league once again.
Coming into this NBA season, the Wizards had high hopes of getting back to form as their superstar point guard Gilbert Arenas was finally healthy and ready to lead the team back to being a force to be reckoned with. Continue Reading…
The San Antonio Spurs have been arguably one of the most dominant teams in the Western Conference and the entire NBA for that matter for quite some time and their four NBA titles to prove just that, but any team with a lot of miles on them will start to break down at one time or another and that might be exactly what’s happened to Gregg Popovich’s dominant squad.
Despite being the seventh seed in the West heading into the NBA playoffs, the San Antonio Spurs played more like the second seed as they were able to knock out their Southwest division rivals in the Dallas Mavericks in the first round with relative ease. Continue Reading…
Throughout the history of the NFL, especially in today’s game, players around the league have been getting into a lot of trouble off the field and causing a lot of problems for their current teams. Despite these primetime athletes constantly getting in serious legal trouble off the field, NFL teams still seem to be giving these troubled players a second, third and fourth chance to resurrect their careers.
With players in the past like Michael Irvin, OJ Simpson and Lawrence Taylor and players in the league today like Tank Johnson, Randy Moss, Santonio Holmes, Ben Roethlisberger and Pacman Jones, the NFL seems like a breeding ground for criminals. Continue Reading…
This season has been a breath of fresh air for the Oklahoma City Thunder as they have been able to completely turn around their franchise in just a single season.
Not only has Kevin Durant turned into arguably one of the best players in the league and the most dominant scorer in the game, but head coach Scott Brooks has been able to lead these young up and coming NBA players through an entire NBA season and into the playoffs.
Even though the Oklahoma City Thunder will almost certainly get knocked out of the first round of the playoffs, Brooks has been able to create a young team with an extremely promising future led by scoring machine Kevin Durant. Continue Reading…
