Throughout the past two years in the NBA, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the upcoming 2010 NBA free agent market as none of the big-name players like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson or Chris Bosh were willing to sign a contract extension with their current teams.
With all these big-name free agents officially becoming available come July 1st, the NBA has been buzzing with rumors about where some of these players might be landing when teams around the league can start making offers this summer.
Without a doubt the biggest name on this free agent list is LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite basically pledging his allegiance to Cleveland over the years, the two-time NBA MVP has still left the door wide open heading into the free agent market.
The four teams most interested in signing LeBron this summer, besides the Cleveland Cavaliers, are the New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers and most notably the New York Knicks. All four of these clubs have a lot of money at their disposal during this NBA offseason and will be looking to drastically improve their franchise through free agency.
Recently, LeBron was asked by Larry King whether or not Cleveland has the “edge” to re-sign him and he said they definitely do, but after Cavs GM Danny Ferry resigned this Friday, things might looked drastically different in Cleveland.
When a GM like Danny Ferry decides to call it quits right before he is supposed to make the biggest move in his career by trying to re-sign LeBron James, that can only mean that things aren’t going well in the process and King James might be moving his throne elsewhere.
Obviously, this remains to be seen, but in my opinion this can only mean bad news for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
