All season long in college basketball, the one team that has gotten more attention than any other was the Ohio State Buckeyes. With superstar forward Jared Sullinger leading the way for this storied college basketball program and a solid team surrounding the Player of the Year candidate, this team was able to dominate the competition in the Big Ten Conference and clinch a number one seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
Even though Sullinger and company were able to reach the Elite Eight with relative ease, the Ohio State Buckeyes were unable to hold off a very hungry and motivated Kentucky Wildcats squad. With head coach John Calipari calling the shots on the sidelines; the Wildcats always have a shot at beating any team on any given night.
Despite being the underdogs, the Wildcats were able to pull off the upset and beat the Buckeyes in the closing minutes (62-60).
Along with the Kentucky Wildcats pulling off the upset over the Ohio State Buckeyes, another Wildcats squad from Arizona was able to do the same thing against the defending NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils.
Coming into the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Duke Blue Devils were considered to be the team to beat in the West Region, but they definitely have their work cut out for them against some very good teams. Even though Coach K and company were anticipating a showdown with either the UConn Huskies or the San Diego State Aztecs further down the road, the Duke Blue Devils were unable to get the best of Derrick Williams and the Arizona Wildcats.
With Player of the Year candidate Derrick Williams leading the pack, the Wildcats had the odds against them in this Sweet 16 matchup, but with an inspired performance from the big fella both inside and outside the paint the Blue Devils title defense came to an end.
