It has been well known in NBA over the past few decades that you don’t consort with rivals and players on teams that can contend for titles. Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, big-name players like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson never backed down an inch from one another or gave the other a competitive edge by becoming too chummy.
Apparently, that mentality of the great players of the past has gone out of the window with arguably two of the best players in the game today working out with each other recently. Reportedly, reigning NBA MVP LeBron James and three-time scoring champion Kevin Durant are currently working out with each other in LeBron’s hometown of Akron, Ohio.
It seems as though the league’s two best and brightest created a bond over the summer in London, England while playing on Team USA. As if these two small forwards weren’t sick of seeing one another after their experience in London and during the NBA Finals, LeBron and Durant are apparently battling it out with one another in rigorous workouts on a daily basis.
The two NBA superstars and leaders of the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder are taking a football approach to these workouts with two-a-days. This is unusual for NBA players of this caliber, but it is clear that both want to improve their games after seeing the upgrades of the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets over the past few months.
It’s intriguing to say the least that these two perennial All-Stars are willing to be in the same gym working on their game knowing that there’s a good chance they may be facing off against one another once again in the NBA Finals.
Obviously, Durant is the more motivated of the two after a disappointing showing in the Finals in which LeBron shined and finally won his first NBA title.
