The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers got off to very different starts to the 2012 NFL regular season with Rex Ryan’s squad lighting up the scoreboard for an impressive 48 points in the win over the Buffalo Bills and Ben Roethlisberger and company falling to the Denver Broncos in Peyton Manning’s debut.
Despite being unable to stop Manning from getting his first win with the Broncos, the Steelers looked pretty good for a team supposedly on the decline on both sides of the football. Big Ben played well and Mike Wallace rejoined the team without a hitch. The defense was formidable as usual, but couldn’t contain the revamped Broncos’ offense.
Heading into Week 2, Pittsburgh will have another tough challenge ahead of them against arguably one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Jets’ offense was a huge question mark for New York before the season began, but after an almost 50-point performance against Buffalo, the offensively struggle for Mark Sanchez and company may have been greatly over exaggerated.
At Heinz Field on Sunday, the Jets’ offense will be put to the test as they must figure out a way to get the best of Troy Polamalu and the Steelers’ secondary. The real question heading into this matchup of AFC Conference heavyweights may be whether or not Big Ben’s offense can get the best of the Jets’ defense.
It’ll be interesting to see which team comes out on top in this battle of dominant defenses. The edge in this game has been given to Pittsburgh with the Steelers playing at home and looking to bounce back in a big way after the loss to the Broncos in Week 1.
As of right now, the Steelers are favored by -6. Pittsburgh may put up a valiant effort at home, but I believe this game will be tight with either the Jets coming out on top or making it closer than anticipated.
Take the Jets at +6.
