Yankees Without A-Rod for Minimum Two Games

Alex Rodriguez, the third baseman for the New York Yankees, has suffered an injury known to the team as hip-flexor tendinitis. However, for us, on laymen’s terms, it’s just a sore right side. Apparently, this injury is not related to the hip surgery that A-Rod underwent last year when he missed the first month of the 2009 MLB season.

The injury occurred during the game Thursday against Baltimore in which New York lost 4-3. Friday, Rodriguez underwent an MRI prior to having to sit on the sidelines for the game against the Astros, which the Yankees claimed a victory. Last Sunday, Rodriguez also left the game against Toronto, in which the Yankees also lost 4-3.

Looking at the extent of the injury right now, the 3-time American League All-Star is probably going to miss the next two games with the Yankees at a minimum. He isn’t expected to play any sooner than Tuesday, if then even, when the Yankees have a rematch against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Right now, it seems that the injury isn’t so terrible that it is going to put the third baseman on the disabled list; however, it could lead to a longer leave than just two games from the team. Therefore, his status could be considered as day-to-day.

Although A-Rod had surgery last year and missed the first 28 games of the season, he recovered well and quickly and still managed to record 30 home runs in 124 games as well as 100 RBIs. More than likely, we’ll see another recovery like last year but this one shouldn’t take as long since he shouldn’t require surgery or anything of that sort.

Since A-Rod won’t be playing in Friday’s game against the Houston Astros, the Yankees have brought in Ramiro Pena to take his place on third base.
