Chris Dickerson, outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds, will be off the field for at least four to six weeks after having multiple surgeries Monday on his hand and wrist. According to various media reports, Dickerson had the hamate bone within his hand removed during surgery yesterday. His wrist, since it had been bothering him for quite some time now, was also thoroughly cleaned out, also known as an arthroscopic procedure.

28-year-old Dickerson received his injury last Thursday during the game against Houston where he had caused aggravation to his wrist during a swing. He was then put on the 15-day disabled list the following day, Friday. So far during the nine games of this season, Dickerson has batted a .227 and has no RBI’s or homeruns.

Although Dickerson is set to only be out about four to six weeks, in order to gain full strength in order to play again, it may take some time. Provided that he doesn’t run into any recovery complications, he may be back on the field in the expected timeframe; however, depending on how quickly he is able to recover and if there are any complications, it may be longer than the four to six weeks before he has the full potential and strength to be up to bat again.

To take Dickerson’s place on the field and in the line-up, the Cincinnati Reds called upon outfielder Chris Heisley. Last season, 25-year-old Heisley was the Minor League Player of the Year and although he didn’t find himself playing out on the field over the course of this past weekend in the series games against St. Louis, he did start in the right field in yesterday’s game against the Mets. This was his Major League debut at the Great American Ball Park
