Sunday night, the Atlanta Braves clinched the National League Wild Card race by holding off the Philadelphia Phillies while the San Francisco Giants held the San Diego Padres off in order to clinch the National League West division title. With everything set in stone, the 2010 MLB playoffs can now begin.
The 2010 MLB playoffs will begin this Wednesday, October 6, and will be between the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays. The game will be held in Tampa Bay and is scheduled to start at 1:37 p.m. ET. Tampa Bay hasn’t had the success in selling tickets at their home field as many other teams have but hopefully with the fact that they have won the American League East division title and with the Texas Rangers visiting they can actually sell some tickets to the first game of the playoff series this year.
Also on Wednesday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet up in Philadelphia with the first pitch being thrown at 5:07 p.m. ET. Philadelphia has clinched having home field advantage throughout the whole MLB postseason. Both of these teams have dominated this year so it’s going to be interesting to see which team, the East or the North, can come out on top.
The third game taking place on Wednesday will be between the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins, who will host this series. The Yankees are the American League Wild Card winner and are coming into this three-game series against the Twins with high hopes and strong will; however, the Twins will have the home field advantage.
The next series opener will be on Thursday, October 7, rather than Wednesday for the Atlanta Braves and the San Francisco Giants. The first pitch will take place at 9:37 p.m. ET at San Francisco. Now, both of these teams have wins coming into the playoffs – the Braves won the NL Wild Card while the Giants won the NL West division title, which took until the very final day of the regular season to finalize.
For now, these will all be series of three games but can go up to five games should it be deemed necessary to determine a winner.
