Last season the Seattle Seahawks were expected to be a team on the rise in the NFL. With the team acquiring Pro Bowlers Sidney Rice and Zach Miller, Seattle had made drastic improvements to the offense and was thought to be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC Conference once again.
Unfortunately, the additions to the Seahawks squad in the receiving corps were worthless without a decent quarterback to replace longtime starter Matt Hasselback who signed with the Tennessee Titans. The quarterback they chose to bring in was Tarvaris Jackson formerly of the Minnesota Vikings. This was considered to be a good move by the Seahawks, but ended in disappointment as Jackson was awful throughout the entire season.
With the number one priority for the Seattle Seahawks being an upgrade at the quarterback position, the team tried to recruit free agent Peyton Manning. The attempt to sign Manning failed so Seattle went after and ultimately signed up-and-comer Matt Flynn formerly of the Green Bay Packers.
After taking over for Aaron Rodgers at the end of the regular season last year, Flynn surprised everyone with a record-breaking six-touchdown performance. This performance turned a lot of heads in the league and made Flynn one of the most desirable quarterback free agents.
Despite interest from many teams around the league including the Miami Dolphins, Matt Flynn chose to sign with the Seattle Seahawks. Reportedly, Flynn has signed a three-year deal with the Seahawks worth about $26 million with $10 million guaranteed. A solid contract for a quarterback that has had just one great game in his career thus far and scored big money as a result.
There is no telling what impact Matt Flynn will have in Seattle, but any quarterback will be an upgrade for the Seahawks moving forward.
