Detroit Lions start season with 3-0 record for first time since 1980

Coming into this NFL regular season, everyone was jumping on the Detroit Lions bandwagon as it was the consensus that Matthew Stafford and company were in for a breakout season and a possible run at the playoffs. Even though many people believed that the Lions were a force to be reckoned with this year, this young team had some tough challenges right out of the gate against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs and the division rival Minnesota Vikings in consecutive weeks.

Fortunately, despite the tough competition against three potential playoff teams, the Detroit Lions have been absolutely flawless by starting the season with a perfect 3-0 record. Not only is this impressive as the Lions seem to be living up to the hype they were given before the season, but this is a milestone for the struggling franchise as it is the first time Detroit has gone 3-0 to start a season since 1980.

Needless to say, the Detroit Lions are officially the real deal this season as they have proven that they can play with talented teams like the Bucs and the Vikings and come out on top. Week 3’s win over Donovan McNabb and company was perhaps their most impressive performance of the season thus far as they had to come-from-behind to get the win.

The Minnesota Vikings absolutely dominated the first half of this NFC North division showdown with the Detroit Lions by getting out to a 20-0 lead heading into halftime, but then the Matthew Stafford and his boys flipped the switch in the second half. After erasing the 20-point deficit, there was no stopping the Lions as the forced overtime and won the game with a game-winning field goal from longtime kicker Jason Hanson.

Next week the Detroit Lions will be tested for the fourth straight week as they head to Dallas to take on Tony Romo and the Cowboys.
