Rookie Kerry Meier, receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, will be unable to attend his rookie season due to an injury to his knee. While the extent of the damage and the injury has not yet been disclosed, we do know that the injury is serious and will keep him out the rest of this NFL season.
Meier was drafted during the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Kansas and will now miss his entire first season due to an injury to his knee that he sustained in Thursday’s preseason game against New England, which the Falcons were defeated.
The Falcons had big plans for their newly acquired receiver in their rotation as well as special teams division. Meier was an all-time leading receiver at Kansas.
Apart from Kerry Meier, the Atlanta Falcons will also have to play without their starter Michael Jenkins due to an injury to his shoulder – at least for the rest of the preseason but if all goes well, he should be able to return at the start of the regular season or at least near the beginning. The Falcons hope that Jenkins will be healed enough and ready to perform in their regular season opener against Pittsburgh, which will be on September 12. As of August 8, he was said to miss about four to six weeks.
The Falcons are also in high hopes of having Harry Douglas back on the team for this season as he missed last season due to a serious injury to his knee – specifically a torn ACL, which he sustained during the early days of training camp. With Meier being out for the rest of the season, Eric Weems as well as Brian Finneran will likely see more play time in receiver position this year.
