It has been in lieu for a while now, but the Miami Dolphins finally have this trade underway. They have been considering the fact of trading Justin Smiley for at least a couple months now, but never pushed forward with it until now.
The Dolphins will be trading guard Smiley to the Jacksonville Jaguars provided that Smiley can pass a physical examination. Though, the question is – will he be able to pass it? One of the main reasons the Dolphins are wanting to trade Justin Smiley is because of a rickety shoulder.
Apart from this physical exam, the deal is confirmed. The Dolphins have traded Smiley to the Jaguars in exchange for a late-round pick (no specifics were given).
More on Smiley’s shoulder….Smiley played for the 49ers prior to being acquired by the Dolphins in 2008. The 49ers, at the time, were wanting to get rid of Smiley due to problems with his shoulder – the same problem that he appeared to be having towards the end of last season as well as this off-season.
With Smiley ultimately leaving the Dolphins, the Dolphins have now acquired OL Cory Proctor from the Dallas Cowboys, who released him just this last week. Proctor is an offensive lineman that can not only play guard, but also center. He was initially acquired by the Cowboys in 2005, but didn’t get to play until the 2007 season. He participated in 16 games with two starts.
As a total, he started in 13 games with the Cowboys in the five seasons he was with Dallas. 11 of the 13 games were played in left guard position in 2008. However, he didn’t participate in any games with the Cowboys last season.
Hopefully, this trade will give Smiley a new and fresh life with the Jacksonville Jaguars and as for Proctor, maybe he will get to hit the playing field this year with the Miami Dolphins.
