Detroit Red Wings’ Johan Franzen Has Possible Concussion

After the 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars, the Wings are not happy at all; however, if it’s not for the reason you think and instead it is with the hit that was taken on Franzen by the Dallas Stars’ defenseman Mark Fistric. In the first period of the Detroit Red Wings’ game on Thursday, center Johan Franzen suffered a hit and didn’t return to the game.

There were eight minutes left in the game’s first period when the hit came in the corner of the defensive zone of the ice. Franzen went down hard but did eventually get up and skate off the ice to not return – and no penalty was ever called on this play. Continue Reading…

Friday night kicks off the 2010 American League Championship Series in Texas at Arlington Ballpark with the Rangers hosting the New York Yankees, less than a week after grilling the Rays in Game 5 to land their spot here today in the 2010 ALCS. The Yankees, on the other hand, swept their opponent, the Minnesota Twins, to land in familiar ground tonight.

The Yankees have won 27 World Series titles as well as 40 pennants while this is the first time the Rangers have ever won a postseason series. Against Texas, the Yankees have a nine-game winning streak in the postseason. The Rangers were knocked out of the playoffs by the Yankees in their three postseason appearances between 1996 and 1999. Tony Stewart Locks In Mobil 1 as a Primary Sponsor for 2011

After being informed that Old Spice was going to cut their sponsorship with Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Stewart knew he had some work cut out for him to find a new sponsor to fill their blank space on his cars and uniforms.

For the two-time Sprint Cup Series Champion and 2010 Sprint Cup Series Chase contender, the length of time it took him to find a new sponsor was probably overwhelming and tedious. It took Stewart five months to find a new sponsor to fill the shoes that Old Spice was leaving behind. While many wouldn’t gripe about a five-month route to find a new sponsor, it was likely the longest five months for Stewart as a part business owner. Continue Reading…

Jerome Harrison Acquired by the Philadelphia Eagles by Trading Mike Bell to the Cleveland Browns

Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns decided to make a swap of running back in hopes of strengthening their own teams but also in the hopes to strengthen the individuals traded.

Jerome Harrison of the Cleveland Browns was sent to the Philadelphia Eagles while Mike Bell of the Eagles was sent to the Browns. Both of these players had promising years back in 2009 but have yet to make a strong impression this year.

Harrison didn’t have a strong coming at first in Cleveland but then flourished during the 2009 season during which he had 286 rushed yards during Week 15 of the NFL season last year at Kansas City, which just about set a new record in the history of the NFL for the most rushed yards in a single NFL game, as well as 561 rushed yards during the last three weeks of last season. Veteran Andreas Lilja Signs with the Anaheim Ducks

Monday, in order to strengthen their problem defense, the Anaheim Ducks decided to sign veteran defenseman Andreas Lilja. The contract is reportedly only for a single year but is worth $600,000. Don’t expect to see the veteran on the ice immediately as there are some visa issues that he is having to work out prior to being able to play, reportedly.

The agreement between the Ducks and the 35-year-old veteran defenseman came over the weekend, not too long after Anaheim lost one of their top defensemen to a broken thumb – Andy Sutton suffered the injury to his right thumb Friday evening. In addition, the Ducks are also without their newly signed defenseman, Tony Lydman, who has been out since before training camp due to serious case of double vision that could have been connected to and caused by severe migraines. St. Louis Rams’ Mark Clayton Out Rest of the Season

Not only did the St. Louis Rams lose their game on Sunday to the Detroit Lions 44-6, a very embarrassing defeat, they also lost one of their star players – wide receiver Mark Clayton. Clayton won’t just be missing a couple of games either; he is set to miss the rest of the 2010 NFL season.

During the game, Clayton, who was acquired during the preseason this year from the Baltimore Ravens on September 6, sustained an injury to his right knee during the first quarter of Sunday’s game that now threatens the rest of his NFL season this year. The Rams have stated that the injury was actually to his patellar tendon. Continue Reading…

Boston Bruins Ink Zdeno Chara to Seven-Year Deal

Saturday, sources confirmed that the Boston Bruins have in fact signed Zdeno Chara, a four-time All-Star, to a seven-year contract on the morning of the season opener for the Bruins against the Phoenix Coyotes. As for financial terms of the seven-year deal, the contract, which is set to keep Chara part of the Bruins through the 2016-2017 NHL season and until the Bruins captain turns 41 years of age, is reportedly worth $45.5 million.

Originally drafted in the third round of the 1996 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, 33-year-old Chara comes in at 6-foot-9, which makes him the tallest hockey player in the history of the NHL. He played between the Islanders and the Ottawa Senators for eight seasons, four and four, respectively and was then signed in 2006 by the Boston Bruins as a free agent. Upon signing his contract with Boston that year, he was immediately named the captain of the team and has held that title ever since. Continue Reading…

Randy Moss Traded from Patriots to Vikings

It’s been a tough few games for Brett Favre. With primary receiver Sydney Rice out for half the season and wide out Percy Harvin unable to spread the field, Favre has found himself running for his life with nowhere to throw on countless occasions. All that could change, however, thanks to the arrival of Randy Moss. Yes, this is the same Randy Moss who made his name playing for the Vikings. Of course, that’s where he developed his wacky, selfish reputation as well.

The trade has been a long time coming. Word had been filtering out of the Patriots organization for weeks that Moss was not happy and was looking to sign a new, long-term contract beyond his last year in New England. The Patriots were unwilling to sign him for the duration he required. When examined from that perspective, this trade was as inevitable as the tide. Continue Reading…

Texas Rangers Ahead While Tampa Bay Rays Find Themselves in a 2-0 Hole

The Tampa Bay Rays can be forgiven for suffering from whiplash. Fresh off their AL East victory over the New York Yankees and boasting the best regular season record in the major leagues, they now find themselves on the verge of going home to stay, on the brink of elimination from the AL playoffs virtually overnight.

The past two days have seen them undergo a passing by the Texas Rangers, a team from a division far worse than the AL East. The Rangers coasted to the division win, while the Tampa Bay Rays had to fight till the last week of the season. Not that they were in danger of missing the playoffs – they would have led the Wild Card if they had missed the championship. Continue Reading…
