Switzerland is known for their awesome defense but it seems that it wasn’t enough this time to take them to the next round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Sure, they had what it took to take out Spain in their opening game and defeat them but it wasn’t enough in the end.
In three games, Switzerland was only able to achieve a single goal and was unable to gain the advancement to the second round of the 2010 World Cup due to not being able to successfully claim a score in Friday’s game against Honduras at Free State Stadium. Continue Reading…
Friday, the Chicago Cubs activated third baseman Aramis Ramirez from the 15-day disabled list. There were a lot of trades going on Thursday night during the NBA Draft of 2010. One of the largest trades was between the Chicago Bulls to the Washington Wizards in which they dealt a trade not only Kirk Hinrich but also the rights to their number 17 draft pick Kevin Seraphin in exchange for a potential second round draft pick.
As for other trades of the night:
The New Orleans Hornets dealt a trade to Oklahoma City the rights of their number 11 pick Cole Aldrich and Morris Peterson for their number 21 draft pick Craig Brackins as well as number 26 draft pick Quincy Pondexter. Continue Reading…
A fractured index finger on the left hand has landed shortstop Tommy Manzella of the Houston Astros on the 15-day disabled list. The injury came during Tuesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants when Manzella took a stab at a catch during the game’s sixth inning. The Astros ended up losing to the Giants 3-1.
Manzella and the team were all uncertain of the extent of his injury that he suffered in Tuesday night’s game until he was examined and had X-Ray’s taken. The team’s physician made the official diagnosis for the injury – fractured index finger –on Wednesday resulting in an approximate six-week sideline from playing with Houston. Continue Reading…
One team’s release is another team’s gain. In this case, the release of veteran quarterback Marc Bulger from the Rams back in April is the Ravens’ gain. The Baltimore Ravens and QB Bulger have come to an agreement for a one-year contract deal that totals nearly $4 million, which could ultimately be worth even more provided that the quarterback is able to meet particular incentives.
Bulger won’t be competing for the starting position though as this is already set in place with Joe Flacco as the current starter for the Ravens so Bulger will be competing for the second spot behind Flacco – the backup position should anything happen to Flacco. Continue Reading…
On July 1, Pittsburgh Penguins’ forward Matt Cooke would have become an unrestricted free agent. Back in the summer of ’08, Cooke was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent and has been one of the Penguins’ top killers for penalties (alongside Jordan Staal, of course!) as he recorded 106 penalty minutes this past season alone.
Cooke had 15 assists in addition to his 15 goals this past season for his 79 appearances as well as +17 rating. He has played in 11 NHL seasons with three different teams – his current and most recent team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Washington Capitals as well as the Vancouver Canucks, who he made his NHL debut with back in ‘99. While Jake Fox has been designated for assignment by the Oakland A’s, Baltimore has already uttered some interest in the A’s outfielder. It appears that he will likely be headed to the Baltimore Orioles.
Fox was designated for assignment approximately 10 days ago and 10 days is the time frame for a trade after being designated for assignment. When he was designated, the 28-year-old Fox had a batting average of .214 with an on-base percentage of .264, which counted for the 106 appearances that he made. As for last season, Fox was hitting .259 with 44 RBI’s and 11 home runs in his 82 games. Continue Reading…

In lieu of recent allegations made against the German team for having what many have claimed to have been an unfair advantage is using the official World Cup ball for practice, Adidas has come out to deny the validity of any such statements and to testify to the fairness for all in the World Cup competition.
The ball in question was released last December 4th and premiered in Munich, thus helping to fuel the claim that Germans have had far longer to practice with the official ball than any other global team. At that time, however, the Munich competition where the World Cup’s official ball debuted had been attended by players from around the world, and since then the ball has been used in global competitions ranging from FIFA’s Club World Championship in Qatar to the matches being held in South Africa today.
