In lieu of recent allegations made against the German team for having what many have claimed to have been an unfair advantage is using the official World Cup ball for practice, Adidas has come out to deny the validity of any such statements and to testify to the fairness for all in the World Cup competition.

The ball in question was released last December 4th and premiered in Munich, thus helping to fuel the claim that Germans have had far longer to practice with the official ball than any other global team. At that time, however, the Munich competition where the World Cup’s official ball debuted had been attended by players from around the world, and since then the ball has been used in global competitions ranging from FIFA’s Club World Championship in Qatar to the matches being held in South Africa today.

Adidas coming out to defend the situation is seen by many as a wise course of action as given the fact that the World Cup is one of the largest sporting events in the world, it could easily work against both the company and one of the global favorite teams should the claims gain any momentum. This is particularly interesting in this year’s competition as the ball has been seen by many players and critics from around the world as being “one of the worst balls ever” - reacting strongly to different climates and altitude changes that will be present in different matches throughout the course of the competition. Some of the strongest criticism has even come from England, though much of the research done into the ball’s development has taken place in English institutes in the months leading up to the ball’s official release in any competition.

While criticisms are still high of the situation many people have come to accept Adidas’ defense of the ball choice, though what effect this will have on critics in the long run is still yet to be seen and may depend greatly on Germany’s performance in the coming matches.
