While Jake Fox has been designated for assignment by the Oakland A’s, Baltimore has already uttered some interest in the A’s outfielder. It appears that he will likely be headed to the Baltimore Orioles.
Fox was designated for assignment approximately 10 days ago and 10 days is the time frame for a trade after being designated for assignment. When he was designated, the 28-year-old Fox had a batting average of .214 with an on-base percentage of .264, which counted for the 106 appearances that he made. As for last season, Fox was hitting .259 with 44 RBI’s and 11 home runs in his 82 games.
Even though the trade of Fox hasn’t been officially announced, it does seem likely that the trade will be for a pitcher from the Minor Leagues.
As for the Baltimore Sun, they claim that Fox will be in uniform this evening with the O’s for their three-game series against the Florida Marlins at Camden Yards. In addition, the Baltimore Sun has also claimed that right-handed Ross Wolf will be sent to Oakland. In his 25 games at AAA Norfolk, he was 0-2 with an ERA of 2.11.
As for room on the Orioles roster, there is definitely going to have to some moving around done to make room for Fox or for Wolf. One option includes first basemen Garret Atkins who has been under-performing. Another option will be to send Chris Tillman to AAA to improve his skill set and improvement for the Major Leagues.
Whether Fox ends up in uniform tonight or not and whether he plays first base, infield position, or even corner outfield position, he will need to prove himself so that he can move up the ladder in Baltimore quickly.
