Arizona Cardinals vs Atlanta Falcons Sun. Sept. 19th 1pm EST
The Arizona Cardinals are a team in the middle of a transition period as the saw their superstar quarterback Kurt Warner retire in the offseason and released what was supposed to be the future face of the franchise in quarterback Matt Leinart.
The Cardinals are actually 6.5 point underdogs in this weeks match up according to BetUS, one of the leading online sportsbooks.
Now the team is looking to veteran quarterback Derek Anderson to fill the void and even though many people believe he won’t be the long term answer under center for the Cardinals, he played pretty well in his first start in the win over the St. Louis Rams in Week 1 (17-13).
Finishing with 297 passing yards, one touchdown (to Larry Fitzgerald) and no interceptions was impressive to say the least for this veteran, especially considering that he could pick up this new system immediately and Matt Leinart could do that in four years.
Obviously, the Arizona Cardinals were hoping to do a little better against a team that won just one game last season, but the St. Louis Rams showed that they were much improved with rookie quarterback and number overall pick Sam Bradford under center.
Coming into Week 2, the Arizona Cardinals will have their work cut out for them as they will go up against the Atlanta Falcons who will be looking to get back on track after getting beat up by the Pittsburgh Steelers defense in Week 1.
Even though the Falcons weren’t able to play up to their abilities against the Steelers, they will be giving everything they have in Week 2 to get the best of the Arizona Cardinals their defense will be testing Derek Anderson all day long.
The one thing the Falcons need to get back on track more than anything in this Week 2 matchup is their running game as Michael Turner really struggled to do anything averaging to 2.2 yard per carry and finishing with just 42 rushing yards.
Hopefully the Falcons will be able to get their game going once again as they will be favored to come out on top in this one.
