The NFL’s policy for using performance-enhancing drugs seems to be being violated quite a bit this year. Already, another football player is being suspended from games this season due to violating the policy.
Gerald McRath, linebacker for the Tennessee Titans, has been handed a four game suspension by the NFL confirmed by Titans Coach Jeff Fisher on Monday following the team’s minicamp session. Since the guidelines still allow McRath to attend preseason games and training camp, he will be allowed to participate in these activities with the team. Continue Reading…
Alex Rodriguez, the third baseman for the New York Yankees, has suffered an injury known to the team as hip-flexor tendinitis. However, for us, on laymen’s terms, it’s just a sore right side. Apparently, this injury is not related to the hip surgery that A-Rod underwent last year when he missed the first month of the 2009 MLB season.
The injury occurred during the game Thursday against Baltimore in which New York lost 4-3. Friday, Rodriguez underwent an MRI prior to having to sit on the sidelines for the game against the Astros, which the Yankees claimed a victory. Last Sunday, Rodriguez also left the game against Toronto, in which the Yankees also lost 4-3. Continue Reading…
The 19th World Cup is just about ready to commence for the 2010 year in South Africa. It begins today and will end exactly one month from now on July 11. The last FIFA World Cup was held in Germany in 2006 where Italy was deemed the World Cup champion.
Today, the World Cup begins in South Africa. South Africa will have their opening game against Mexico starting at 10am ET in Johannesburg followed by the opening game of Uruguay against France in Cape Town at 2:30 pm ET. Continue Reading…
Jacoby Ellsbury underwent new tests and examinations and the results weren’t pretty. Apparently, the MRI shows that Ellsbury has a new injury to his ribs – new fractures. The outfielder for the Boston Red Sox first sustained four broken ribs on April 11 when colliding with teammate Adrian Beltre in the game against the Royals.
Wednesday, Ellsbury was examined in Los Angeles by orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum, whom Ellsbury went to see based off his agent’s recommendations for a second opinion. The Red Sox approved the visit and MRI test results showed that he had a new set of rib fractures in a different area than the first set of fractures. Continue Reading…
We reported previously this week that the Milwaukee Brewers released pitcher Jeff Suppan. That was Monday. It’s now Thursday and he’s already received an offer to join another team.
The St. Louis Cardinals are taking the right-handed free agent pitcher under their wing for a minimum pro-rated contract. There were talks about two other pitchers possibly joining the Cardinals – Kevin Milwood, right-handed player from the Orioles as well as Brian Bannister, right-handed player from the Royals; however, it seems that Suppan got the final contract. The 2010 MLB Amateur Draft started on Monday with the Washington Nationals staking their claim first with the first pick of the night.
As we already know and have reported, the Nationals took 17-year-old Bryce Harper from the College of Southern Nevada as their first round draft pick and the first overall draft pick of the night. Although he has played catcher, he’ll find himself as an outfielder with Washington, which will likely have him moving up the ladder quicker than if he were labeled as a catcher. Continue Reading…
Wednesday, the Phoenix Coyotes officially announced that they have successfully re-signed their left wing Scott Upshall to a one-year deal. The actual financial terms of this one-year contract were not disclosed at the time of the announcement made by General Manager Don Maloney of the Coyotes.
The 26-year-old left wing scored a total of 18 goals with 14 assists with 50 penalty minutes for a total of 32 points this past season in the 49 appearances that he made as a Coyote. Towards the end o the season, the left wing suffered an injury to his knee on January 28 in the game against Calgary keeping him off the ice and ultimately ending his season. Continue Reading…
The opening game of the World Cup for the US team is just a few days away – it is just right around the corner. Last week, we reported that forward Jozy Altidore sustained a sprain to his ankle during Wednesday’s practice and was required to stop training immediately. He had been expected to watch the team practice for the World Cup open from the sidelines.
However, six days later after spraining his ankle, Altidore is back with the US team and has resumed full training exercises. Therefore, he will be able to participate in the World Cup and will not have to watch unhappily from the sidelines. He has been participating in some individual training sessions since late last week. Continue Reading…
The Cleveland Cavaliers are an absolute mess right now. They just fired their head coach Mike Brown after two of the most successful NBA regular seasons in franchise history and their GM Danny Ferry has just resigned only weeks before the team will be trying to convince two-time NBA MVP LeBron James to stay in Cleveland.
No matter how you shake it, the Cavs are in trouble and are scrambling to make something happen before the roof caves in and LeBron heads to New York or Chicago. Continue Reading…
The prestigious Washington Nationals had the opening pick of the night for the MLB Amateur Draft Monday night and decided to go with a very popular amateur player from Las Vegas, 17-year-old Bryce Harper. Being so young you may wonder how he made it into the draft – well, here is the story.
Harper wanted to be eligible for draft this season so instead of playing his high school junior season, he opted to test for and receive his GED. He then went on to enroll at the College of Southern Nevada instead of waiting until 2011. Many probably find this move of Harper’s devastating thinking that he ruined his life by taking this chance when there was no guarantee for anything. Continue Reading…
