Safety of the St. Louis Rams, Oshiomogho Atogwe, also known as O.J. Atogwe, is apparently planning a visit in Seattle sometime next week. He is at the top of the list when it comes to free agents right now.
While 28-year-old, almost 29, Atogwe is planning to visit Seattle that does not mean that the Seahawks have any interest in the safety. Actually, according to various media reports and team sources, they have shown no interest thus far.
Seattle will be his first visit with a team as a free agent, which he became only about two weeks ago at the beginning of this month. He became a free agent because St. Louis declined to offer the safety a tender by the June 1 deadline, which would have valued at almost $7 million.
Last season, Atogwe was the Rams’ franchise player and St. Louis has been trying to sign the safety vigorously in order to keep him but Atogwe has a few other ideas up his sleeve first it seems. For right now, the Rams have an offer on the table for O.J. as they want to keep him on their team and they are hoping for the best.
This last season, in 2009, he found himself on the injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. In addition to his shoulder injury, he also had to undergo surgery for a hernia. Although Atogwe didn’t play a full season, he posted a fabulous record. In the 12 games that he participated in, he recorded 74 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, as well as a single sack.
So, we know that St. Louis wants Atogwe back with them, but will he give in to them or will he find his place with another team in the NFL?
