Wednesday, the New York Yankees made an official announcement that they have signed pitcher Chad Gaudin. Gaudin was added to the Yankees’ 25-man active roster and has signed a Major League agreement with the team. Specific terms were not disclosed about the deal between the Yankees and Gaudin.
Last August, Gaudin was first acquired by the Yankees from the San Diego Padres and was then released by the team March 25. He had a 3.43 ERA and was 2-0 in 11 total games in 2009 for the Yankees, six of which were starts. He helped the Yankees to the 2009 World Series and are now the defending champions. Then in his four participations during the Spring, two of which were starts, he was 0-2 and had an ERA of 8.68, which is what ultimately led the Yankees to release him in late-March.
After being released by the Yankees in March, he signed with the Oakland A’s and was 0-2 with an ERA of 8.83 in his 12 appearances with them. He was then released by Oakland just last week and now, he has been re-signed to a Major League contract agreement for the New York Yankees.
Since the contract has been signed, it is possible that he see the field as early as Wednesday evening for the team’s game against the Twins. This isn’t a sure thing, but it is possible. In order for room to be made on the 40-man roster for this right-handed pitcher, pitcher Shane Lindsay was designated by the Yankees for assignment. Then, in order to get Gaudin on the 25-man roster, the team decided to option Boone Logan to AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
