The Oakland Athletics have been in some serious need of a right-handed batter especially after letting go of one less than 48 hours ago. The Oakland A’s just previously designated Jake Fox for assignment, which allowed the team to look for a more proficient, quality, and dependable right-handed batter.
The door seemed to open up at the right time for outfielder Conor Jackson as he has now been acquired by the Oakland A’s. Jackson definitely has the power at bat when it comes to offense. The A’s ultimately hope that Jackson will come in and get the job done.
Jackson, out of the University of California was acquired in the first round of the 2003 draft by the D-backs. Last season even after missing majority of it due to a fungal infection which ultimately weakens the overall body, he recorded 1 homer, 11 doubles, as well as 11 RBI’s with a batting average of .238. As of right now, it seems that he has no persistent effects from the Valley Fever (fungal infection).
28-year-old Jackson made his debut in the Major Leagues back in 2005 and found himself mostly in the role of the first baseman until 2008 for the Diamondbacks at which time he went back to playing left field. For three years in a row, 2006, 2007, and 2008, Jackson was known as one of the most consistent hitters for Arizona. In his first two seasons of full play, he recorded 15 home runs in each season and then 12 homers in 2008.
Now, although he probably won’t be participating in Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago Cubs, he will be arriving in time for the game and will be available in case he is needed. So, whether or not he’ll be participating is still a matter in question, but his name probably won’t appear in the starting lineup for Tuesday evening’s game.
In exchange for the attainment of Jackson, Sam Demel was sent over to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
