As anticipated, the Los Angeles Dodgers are adding their outfielder Manny Ramirez to the 15-day disabled list Saturday due to right hamstring strain. Ramirez thought the strain was improving but Joe Torre, the Dodgers manager, wants to make sure that Ramirez is improving and the appropriate precautions are taken to ensure a quick and proper recovery.

Ramirez was placed on the disabled list back on April 23 for the very first time and was batting a .415 at the time. He returned to the Dodgers lineup on May 8 but was nowhere near his recent playing aptitude. However, just before his injury, his overall game was starting to improve.

In the past 15 appearances, which does not include the past two games, Manny Ramirez has three home runs and 11 runs batted in with a batting average of .460. This season in his 59 appearances, Ramirez is batting a .322 average with 8 home runs and 39 RBIs with a on base percentage of .412.

The 38-year-old outfielder underwent MRI exams Thursday that showed inflammation in his right hamstring area. The injury originally surfaced on Tuesday when he was running from one base to another in the game against Sacramento.

Since Ramirez hasn’t appeared in the past two games of the season for the Dodgers, L.A. substituted Garret Anderson in his position on the field and in the batting lineup. Recalled from AAA Albuquerque, Xavier Paul will be Ramirez’s replacement on the active roster for L.A. and is appearing in the starting lineup for Saturday night’s game. In Paul’s 20 appearances this year, he has a batting average of .281 with one triple, five doubles, as well as six runs batted in.

In addition, the Dodgers also optioned Ramon Troncoso (reliever) to and also recalled from AAA Albuquerque Travis Schlichting as his replacement.
