Will Reggie Bush be the first to be cut when the NFL lockout is over?

Once the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) gets the green light, a lot of teams around the league will have to start making some serious budget cuts in order to comply with the new CBA. With that being said, players will almost certainly be cut and the one big-name that might be first to go is the New Orleans Saints veteran running back Reggie Bush.

Even before the NFL lockout began, the rumors flying around New Orleans was that Reggie Bush was on his way out regardless of what were to happen. Now that the Saints have drafted Heisman trophy winning running back Mark Ingram out of Alabama, the future of the running back position in the Big Easy is set and the Saints can finally move out of the Reggie Bush era.

The New Orleans Saints have said they want to keep him and Reggie Bush has said that he wants to stay with the team, but there is no way the numbers will work between the two sides. Bush is scheduled to make $11.8 million next season and the Saints have 26 unrestricted free agents they have to make decisions on with only $11.7 million in cap room. That is a pretty big dilemma and cutting Bush would free up the money they need to re-sign other free agents.

With that being said, I believe Reggie Bush is done in New Orleans and will be looking for work very soon. There will be no shortage of teams that will be willing to sign the veteran running back, but Bush’s days as a high paid player in the NFL will be over.

The Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are three teams that could interest in signing Reggie Bush if he is released by the New Orleans Saints.
