The ride is officially over for 13-year veteran wide receiver Randy Moss as the controversial wideout has called it quits. There was talk that the future Hall of Famer was getting a lot of offers this offseason from plenty of different teams around the NFL, but despite being supposedly in “freakishly good shape” and ready to prove everyone wrong the 34-year-old decided to call it a career.
There is no telling what really led Randy Moss to retire with potentially one or two more good seasons left in his legs, but despite his reasons the polarizing receiver will go down in NFL history as one of the best players ever to play his position. There is no question that Moss was a headache for many of, if not all, the teams he played for (Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans), but he has definitely left his mark on the game with some impressive career numbers.
The two categories in which Randy Moss left a lasting impression was in total touchdowns (153) and 100-yard games (64). With 153 touchdowns, Randy Moss is tied with Terrell Owens and is behind just Jerry Rice for the most receiving in NFL history. The 100-yard game mark of 64 is also almost as equally impressive as he is second all-time.
Randy Moss is also on the high end of a few more lists with 954 receptions (tied for eighth all-time with Hines Ward) and 14,858 receiving yards (fifth all-time). Needless to say, Moss is definitely in the conversation as a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The only thing that eluded Moss during his 13-year career was a Super Bowl title, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come out of retirement if the right team were to come calling.
