Before going head-to-head against the defending AFC West division champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, the Oakland Raiders made a bold move by acquiring one-time Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals. This move turned a lot of heads around the league as Palmer was considered to be off the market and possibly past his prime in the NFL. Despite the Bengals being adamant about not trading Palmer, the Raiders were able to make a deal and bring in a franchise caliber quarterback for the first time since Rich Gannon.
Many people believed that acquiring Carson Palmer was the missing piece to the puzzle for the Oakland Raiders as a franchise quarterback has been something that this struggling franchise has been without from quite some time, but his first snaps in silver and black were far from pretty as the veteran quarterback struggled in his debut with three interceptions in the loss to the Chiefs.
Fortunately, Carson Palmer and company were able to get a much-needed two weeks in order to build some chemistry and get back on track for Week 9’s divisional matchup against the Denver Broncos. Not only has Palmer had some time to get used to his new surrounding and players in Oakland, but now he has a familiar face to connect with in veteran wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
Reportedly, the Oakland Raiders have signed T.J. Houshmandzadeh in order to give quarterback Carson Palmer another weapon in the offense. This is an interesting move by the Raiders as Oakland chose to go with Houshmandzedah instead of free agent Terrell Owens. Both players have history with Palmer, but apparently the veteran quarterback is a bit more comfortable with Houshmandzadeh due to the six years of experience playing together in Cincinnati.
