New York Giants @ New England Patriots Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
The fourth and final preseason game for the New England Patriots will be a Super Bowl rematch of 2008 when Tom Brady and company had a perfect 18-0 record heading into their showdown with Eli Manning and the New York Giants. Needless to say, the Giants pulled off arguably the biggest upset in Super Bowl history as they were able to take down Bill Belichick’s squad, 17-14.
It has been a few years since that devastating upset that denied Tom Brady of his fourth Super Bowl ring and coming into this preseason game the Giants will be underdogs against the Patriots once again. As arguably one of the best teams in the league, the Patriots will look to finish the preseason with another win as they will try and bounce back after the loss to the up-and-coming Detroit Lions last week.
The Lions definitely put on a defensive display against the Patriots’ first team last week, but Bill Belichick will almost certainly be resting most of his starters in this game to get them ready for Week 1 of the NFL regular season. With that being said, this should be a matchup between two teams playing reserves for most of the contest.
There is no question that the New England Patriots are by far the better team in comparison to the New York Giants, but this week Giants head coach Tom Coughlin will be looking to prove that they can contend with the Patriots and try to get things going offensively.
It has been a strange preseason for the New York Giants as they have played well on defense throughout the first three games, but the offense has gone up and down. The offense will be the main concern for Tom Coughlin and company coming into this 2008 Super Bowl rematch.
