Giants and 49ers advance to NFC Championship game

New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers: 37-20 Giants

The New York Giants headed into the NFC Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs as heavy underdogs with little to no chance of advancing to the NFC Championship game. With the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers playing at Lambeau Field and rested with the bye week, the Giants weren’t thought to be able to contend with the likes of Aaron Rodgers and company, but that was far from the case.

The one player on the Giants that needed to step up in order to give New York a shot of pulling off the upset was one-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning. With people around the league still not convinced that Manning is in the elite quarterback he says he is, the odds were against him, but that must have been the motivation he needed as he out played the reigning Super Bowl MVP with three touchdown passes and a game-high 330 yards.

Needless to say, the Giants were the better team on Sunday as Eli Manning was able to get the job done and lead his team to victory, 37-20.

New Orleans Saints @ San Francisco 49ers: 36-32 49ers

Arguably the most entertaining game of the NFL playoffs thus far went down in San Francisco with the 49ers defending their home field against the red-hot New Orleans Saints. With the Saints playing like the best team in the league, the consensus was that the 49ers would struggled against the potent offense led by Drew Brees, but that wasn’t the case as Patrick Willis and company were able to overcome Sean Payton’s offense.

The win by the San Francisco 49ers didn’t come without a fair share of drama as there were four leads changes in the final minutes with both teams going back and forth, but in the end Alex Smith and his boys came out on top.
