The NFC East division is wide open right now with any of the four teams within the division having a legitimate shot of winning the division title and making it into the playoffs. With that being said, the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles were more than ready for their divisional showdown this past Sunday, but only one team showed up in Philly as Michael Vick and company were on their game.
The Dallas Cowboys had absolutely no chance of competing in this NFC East battle as the Philadelphia Eagles were firing on all cylinders on both sides of the football for the first time this season. The Eagles may have gotten the best of the St. Louis Rams in Week 1 and got the better of the New York Giants before heading into their bye week, but Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys was by far the most impressive.
Not only did the Eagles get the win over the Cowboys and move into second place in the NFC East division, but this performance might have been the first step to getting this “Dream Team” back on track as one of the elite teams in the NFL. Along with Vick getting going with 329 total yards (279 passing, 50 rushing) and two touchdowns, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy had a breakout game with 185 rushing yards and two touchdowns of his own.
Even though the Eagles’ offense was near unstoppable, the real headline of this game was the Cowboys’ defense. Rob Ryan took full responsibility for the meltdown on defense, but it may have been bad enough to cost him his job as the Cowboys were dominated by the Eagles, 34-7.
With this win over the Cowboys, the Eagles have moved up to second place in the NFC East division and have the first winning streak of the season, but they will be tested once again in Week 9 against the Chicago Bears.
