Marlin Jackson, safety and defensive back for the Philadelphia Eagles has ruptured his right Achilles tendon. The injury occurred Tuesday during the team’s practice. Jackson apparently left the field in tears and was unsure of the extent of the injury and what exactly the injury was.
26-year-old Marlin Jackson is a newcomer for the Eagles as he was a free agent this past March until he signed a two-year contract deal with Philadelphia.
Later Tuesday, Jackson underwent an MRI, which the results of were not promising. The MRI revealed the rupture to his right Achilles tendon. This injury is one that may keep this safety off the field and on the sidelines the entire 2010 NFL season.
Jackson has been playing for five years and those five career years were spent as an Indianapolis Colt. The past two NFL seasons have been interrupted due to injuries to his knees. In 2008, Jackson tore his right ACL and then in 2009, he tore his left ACL. Surgery was essential for both of those injuries.
During his time with the Colts, Jackson participated in 56 games total, 32 of which were starts. He has four interceptions, recorded 12 defense passes and posted two forced fumbles. In 2006, he helped the Colts win the Super Bowl against the Bears.
A couple media reports also report that Macho Harris will return to the position of free safety due to Jackson’s injury. He had originally been asked to move to cornerback when the Eagles first acquired Jackson.
There is no official word just yet that Jackson will be out the entire season this year, but it is a possibility. He will likely undergo surgery for his Achilles tendon injury. What do you guys think? Do you think these injuries are causing Jackson to reach his retirement early?
