It may come as a shocker to many people since Jason Taylor hasn’t been very fond of New York Jets fans for years now. He has called them classless, ignorant, dumb, and much more. However, it is now time for those Jets fans to be cheering for Taylor rather than booing him as they have been because he is officially a Jet as of Tuesday.
Tuesday, Jason Taylor, defensive end and linebacker, signed a two-year contract deal with the New York Mets. Taylor will be leaving the Miami Dolphins where he has played the majority of his NFL career (12 out of 13 seasons) to join the Dolphins AFC-East rival.
Taylor understands that his fans in New York may hate him, but he is hoping that they can forgive and forget as that is how opponents and rivalries are supposed to be. You simply aren’t supposed to like the fans of your rival team!
Taylor met with the New York Jets just a couple weeks ago, but came back with no response as to whether he would sign with the Jets. He gave the Dolphins time to come around, but they simply didn’t want to do and even canceled a meeting that was scheduled with Taylor. This was probably one of the main things that made Taylor realize that the Dolphins may not resign him or even want him to come back.
Taylor scheduled a vacation to Costa Rice for this past weekend and left without any word on whether he would join the Mets or wait for the Dolphins. However, upon his return from his vacation, he had made his decision. The time he spent in Costa Rica must have enlightened him to go with Coach Rex Ryan and the New York Jets rather than wait around for the Miami Dolphins to resign him once the draft had ended, which might not happen anyway.
Today, Jason Taylor is on his way to New York to join his new team, the New York Jets. He will have to face all those fans that he has hated and insulted for quite some time now very soon.
