Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins Meeting With the New York Jets

This morning at 7 a.m., Jason Taylor, linebacker of the Miami Dolphins boarded a flight that will take him to New York to meet with the Jets. According to Taylor’s agent, Gary Wichard he is currently a free agent under no restrictions. He is also the only remaining Miami Dolphins free agent.

His agent apparently talked Taylor into heading up to New York and meeting with the Jets. He says that Taylor loves the Miami fans, but he himself is just not sure what’s going to be available when the NFL Draft comes around.

Apparently, though, the Jets’ coach, Rex Ryan, had been making some phone calls in the attempt to getting Taylor to sign with them. This first started occurring when the Jets lost their kicker, Jay Freeley, a free agent, to Arizona.

As a Final 4 Team, the Jets are able to sign an unrestricted free agent when they lose one but were unable to even attempt to sign a free agent until one had been lost in free agency. Since this requirement has been made with Jay Freeley, the Jets have started a recruitment process in signing Jason Taylor.

According to Taylor’s agent, though, Taylor probably won’t be putting a pen to any paper during this New York visit. The two will meet upon his return to discuss the situation in New York and his visit with Rex Ryan.

So, he may not be signing a contract just yet, but who is to say that Jason Taylor won’t be scheduling another flight before too long to New York to meet with the Jets again and actually put that pen to paper and sign his name on a contract as a New York Jet.
